The portable version requires Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, or Vista. --------------------------- INSTALL (Main Version) --------------------------- To install Debrief, run the setup program (DebriefSetup.exe) and follow the instructions it provides --------------------------- INSTALL PORTABLE DEBRIEF --------------------------- Because the installation of the main version of Debrief is more automated than the portable version, it is recommended to use the main version unless the portable feature is needed. To prepare Portable Debrief for use: - Run the setup program (DebriefPortableUnzip.exe) to unzip the software. - When prompted, specify a location where to place the software, such as a USB drive (e.g. "E:\"), or a folder on your C-drive. - To run the Portable Debrief, start the program file: DebriefPortable.exe - Optionally, create a shortcut that targets the program: DebriefPortable.exe The default file location for Portable Debrief is \DebriefPortable The default data location is \DebriefDocuments For example, the data locations could be: E:\DebriefPortable E:\DebriefDocuments The installation included a folder name \Support. If you are using Windows XP SP2 or Vista, you may delete this folder. It is used to distribute files that can be useful in environments where Windows is older than XP's Service Pack 2. The default location for this folder is: \DebriefNotes\Support. --------------------------- GETTING STARTED --------------------------- When Debrief is first started, start up tips are available. The first time each feature is accessed, a feature tip will also pop up. These tips may be turned off via the checkboxes at popup time. They may be turned back on via the Help menu. For a tutorial, go to the Help dropdown menu and select the Tutorial. The Tutoral page links to common help pages that can be reviewed, step by step. "Real World" tips are also available in the help file. This section covers ways to organize personal notes using different features of Debrief. --------------------------- EDITIONS --------------------------- Debrief is available in three editions: - Basic Edition No charge. Basic note features - Standard Edition Additional note features - Professional Edition Full featured Both the Main and Portable versions of Debrief include the three editions. --------------------------- LICENSE KEYS --------------------------- This release of Debrief is available in three editions: Basic, Standard, and Professional. All editions require acceptance of the License Agreement. The use of either the Standard or Professional edition requires a license key. The Basic edition is selected by clicking a button in the licensing window. Tip: If you ever need to reinstall quickly in an emergency situation and your license key is not handy, you can use the Basic Edition license key during installation, and later use your purchased license key when it is available. Both the Main and Portable versions of Debrief accept the same license keys. --------------------------- UPGRADES --------------------------- To upgrade from the Basic Edition to either Standard or Professional Editions, go to the Help - About menu option, and click the License button. To upgrade from Standard to Professional Edition, go to the Help - About menu option, and click the License button. It will preserve settings and update the software as required. There is no need to uninstall before the upgrade. --------------------------- UNINSTALL --------------------------- Debrief may be uninstalled by either (a) the Windows Control Panel (Add/Remove Programs), or by (b) following the Windows Start Programs menus to the Debrief menus. After uninstalling, folders may still remain on your hard drive for (1) data files and (2) program files. You may delete these folders if you no longer need the files. By default, these folders are: \My Documents\DebriefDocuments \Program Files\Idealign\Debrief The portable version may be uninstalled by deleting all of the product files.
